Score Sheet - Allstar Cheer
Athletic Championships is excited to announce that we will be adopting the Varsity Standard of Scoring this Season. Varsity All Star realizes how much stress it puts on you, your coaches, and your parents to be facing a different “playing field” at every event you attend, and we all feel that the Varsity Standard of scoring will create a strong, fair, and competitive environment moving forward so that no matter what Varsity Brand event you attend your entire program will understand where the scores come from and how they are calculated.
Here at ATHLETIC we will be offering the Category Scoring version of Varsity Score system. Through both its success at Worlds and several of our sister companies last season we feel the Category style judging offers our judges the strongest tool to properly place your teams. If you are unfamiliar with Category Scoring this system puts judges in a very strong position to succeed. In the face of modern all star routines it is a lot to ask one person to watch every aspect that is put on the floor and then properly categorize, judge, and place those pieces together within large divisions to determine your team’s standing. In the category scoring system judges are recognized not just for their overall expertise, but the actual portion of the routine they are most qualified to judge. Two judges are then assigned to each section of the score sheet: building, tumbling, and overall routine. Those judges are only responsible for their portions of the score sheets. So instead of a judge having to process every piece of a two and half minute routine that may have as many as thirty six athletes performing, they are only responsible for judging the sections of the routine that fall under their portion of the score sheet. Rather than judging all the pieces and placing them, a building judge for example simply has to decide the placement of each team’s pyramids, stunts, and tosses. We feel strongly that by reducing the amount of information that these judges must process within an individual routine we vastly increase their ability to judge what they are seeing.
The breakdown of the Category Scoring this year goes as follows:
Individual Categories:
- Building Skills (2 judges)
- Stunts, Pyramids & Tosses
- Tumbling Skills (2 judges)
- Running Tumbling, Standing Tumbling & Jumps
- Overall Routine (2 judges)
- Dance/Motions, Formations/Transitions & Performance
The Creativity portion of the score sheet is broken into two sections, skills creativity and routine creativity, worth 5 points each. Skill creativity will be split into two parts worth 2.5 each, and will be judged by the Building and Tumbling Judges. Routine Creativity will be judged by the Overall Routine judges.
ATHLETIC will have a total of 8 Judges on one panel for every Championship this year; 2 for each Category (6 total) and 2 Point Deductions/Safety Judges. At Athletic Championships we will value the routine as follows: Building skills 30% Tumbling 30% Overall Routine 30% Overall Creativity 10%
We are looking forward to another amazing Season! We wish you all great success everywhere you compete, and look forward to seeing you at one of our 15 outstanding Championship Events this year!
